Paperwing! Little bit of dilberate fudging, here. So far as I know, the Paperwing doesn’t have a wicker cage over the cockpit as seen here, but fuck accuracy you’re going to get a gore crow in your teeth that way.

And since i was doing important business things last week, here’s a bigger version of the new kid in the portrait pile

Five Favourite Fictional Females - 04. Sabriel (The Old Kingdom series)
The main protagonist of the first book of a majorly unappreciated series, Sabriel is the daughter of the Abhorsen - a necromancer who puts the dead to rest, rather than raise them. When we first encounter Sabriel, she’s a prefect in a private school on the other side of the Wall, but when her father is in danger she becomes the new Abhorsen and goes on a quest to find and hopefully save him. Though Lirael goes through the most character development in the subsequent books (probably because she has two books to do so), Sabriel has a much more subtle character development, and no matter the horrors that are thrown at her, she faces each obstacle with wholesome determination, courage, grace and dignity. She is definitely one of the strongest female role models in young adult fantasy.

Have I read all the good Sabriel fics out there? I just want a really good, really long story…that isn’t to schmoopy, is that to much to ask? I guess it’s time to re-read.

Yeah, I know.  It’s super hard to find fic at all, much less good fic.  I just read this one, though, and it’s super short, but rather good.  I also liked this one.  It deals with the aftermath of the battle from an outsider’s perspective and is kinda sad.  Oh, and this one!  It revolves around practical joking, and can be read as either genfic or romance.

These are all pretty short.  Hope this helps!

ETA:  Oops!  Just saw the bit where you wanted long stories.  How about this one?

Just finished Sabriel and am moving onto Lirael.

DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT’S BEEN SINCE I’VE READ THESE BOOKS?  Way, way too long.  They are still among my favorites like WHOA.
